Robert Greene entered the Army on December 14, 1967 at the age of 23 as an Armorer. He was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas for over a year after which he was transferred to Fort Bragg with 82nd Airborne, where he spent 9 months. After two years of service, he ended his active duty in December, 1969 and transitioned to the Army Reserves, where his Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) was “88 Hotel”, a Cargo Specialist. In the reserves, Greene was assigned to three different transportation units; which loaded ships heading overseas for Vietnam and later Desert Storm/Gulf War and the War on Terror. Over his years in the Army, he did multiple Temporary Duty Stations (TDY’s) with his units out of Boston; Military Eastern Area Transportation. Greene served with 1169, 1170, and 1172 transportation units; he was promoted to First Sergeant in 1981 (just under 14 years in the service). He held that position until he retired in 1997. In 1980, Greene acquired a position with Commonwealth Gas in his civilian life, as a technician, and was employed with them until retiring in 2014. Greene joined the Wm. E. Carter American Legion Post 16 on July 1, 1978 and became Commander of Post 16 in 2010 and has been a member for 46 years.
